Flintlock Tromblon, London Gameson & Co., London, circa 1820.
Octagonal chamber, transitioning to a round tromblon shape via balusters. Chamber signed “London” and bearing proof marks from the Birmingham Proof House. Breech plug with spring-loaded release for the bayonet mechanism. Triangular bayonet with a strong spring and a hinge for locking above the tromblon muzzle. Flat lock plate with a rainproof pan, frizzen spring with friction roller, cock with sliding safety. Lock plate and cock with fine acanthus engravings, signed “Gameson & Co.” Finely engraved brass fittings. Grained walnut stock with a silver monogram plate engraved with a rampant lion holding a scythe. Original ramrod with ball puller. Length 75 cm, barrel length 36 cm, 102 cm with bayonet extended. Bore still bright with minimal spotting and patina, visible old tool marks from manufacturing. Very good condition and function with strong springs. Gameson is mentioned at 67 Threatneedle Street, London, between 1824 and 1830 (S. Stöckel Vol. 1, p. 418).
