Bayonet unknownt, probably German State

690 €*

Yatagan blade with rectangular fluting, root stamped B. Strong crossguard with disc-shaped end, stamped C. Steel pommel with pusher stamped K and R. Five-fold riveted, fish-skin cut hard leather grip panels. Black stitched leather scabbard with two decorative grooves, stamped B at the transition to the mouth plate, round carrying knob. Length 71.8 cm, blade length 57.9 cm. From its shape and dimensions it could be assigned to the English Withword Short Rifle P 1863, due to the lack of English manufacturer’s marks and English acceptance stamps, it could be a European production for a German state. In any case, it is a very rare, previously unpublished bayonet. An attentive reader informed us that it could be the US bayonet of the Providence Tool Company for the Pearbody Martini rifle. See Ames Catalogue from 1880.
