Pair of Percussion Duelling-/Targetpistols France 1850

Detachable octagonal barrels with deep blue bluing, 7-groove deep rifled with sharp, bright rifling. Gold-inlaid “Canon Acier.” Color-hardened lock plates with gold-inlaid gunsmith’s signature “Divoir Arq.r a Lille.” Locks masterfully crafted and polished inside. Finely adjustable, French set trigger. Color-hardened steel fittings with light engraving. Finely florally carved and fluted, ebonized stock. Length 38.5 cm, barrel length 24 cm. Guns numbered 1 and 2. Oak case with complete accessories: ramrod, cleaning rod, combination piston wrench with screwdriver, James Dixon oil bottle, bullet tongs, powder flask, setting hammer, ebony percussion cap box, bullet puller, and some old shot plasters and bullets. Lined with green felt. The lid is gold-stamped with “Divoir a Lille.” Case key included. Folding brass carrying device, plaque signed “Au Colonel. Couturier 15me Reg.nt d´art Rie. Les Marechaux des Logis 1878.” In 1875, Colonel Couturier became colonel of the 15th Artillery Regiment, stationed in Douai (northern France), previously in Strasbourg. The case was presented to the house marshals in 1878. The gunsmith Divoir mentions 1835-1845, see Stöckel, Vol. 1, p. 297. Very little fire, one weapon has minor scratches, otherwise very good, almost new condition.
