Wheellock Rifle, Germany Master B.B. about 1650

Octagonal, curved barrel, chamber with iron-cut bead decoration, height-adjustable rear sight, brass front sight. Rifled soul with strong staining, lock plate signed B. B., engraved with hunting scenes between trees, the spring cover plate with a jumping dog, the rooster with a kneeling baroque hunter, spring-loaded pan slide, finely adjustable set trigger with needle set, fingered trigger guard. Walnut stock with black and white spring-loaded plaster compartment lid and birdseye maple inlay. Cheek with baroque wild boar hunt in inlaid madaillon, cheek piece with black and white decor in between birds’ eye maple, side plate rosettes made of horn, as well as the ramrod tubes and the barrel end, black and white grained butt horn end with ball, total length 106 cm, barrel length 77 cm. Except for the inside condition of the barrel, excellent overall condition and function. Provenance: from a Hessian gun room in a castle near Frankfurt.
