German Percussion target rifle, circa 1840

Uniform octagonal barrel with tunnel front sight and a folding rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation. Barrel deep rifling, likely a later replacement; detachable barrel. Front-action lock. Finely adjustable German double-set trigger; trigger guard with finger rest. Finely grained walnut stock featuring a prominent, substantial cheekpiece. Checkering with decorative carving. Hook-style buttplate. Length 113 cm, barrel length 74.4 cm, distance to trigger 32 cm. Barrel cleaned; sight and lockplate show minimal, cleaned traces of light rust; otherwise in very good condition and working order. Bore diameter (lands) 10.1 mm, groove diameter 10.7 mm. Note: This firearm comes from the collection of a muzzle-loading marksman who achieved great success at German and World Championships.
