Pair of converted Flintlock pistols, Le Clerc Paris, circa 1740

Octagonal, tapered barrels with raised sighting rib and blade front sight; several deep-stamped brass marks featuring a rampant lion and the maker’s mark; breech plug with rear sight; flat, beveled lock plate with sawtooth engraving; converted flintlock mechanism; brass furniture with chased decoration; side plate featuring fine openwork Baroque ornamentation. Thumb plate bearing a royal crown; walnut stock with light floral carving; ramrod with horn tip. Total length 41 cm, barrel length 25.5 cm. One pistol shows a minor repair to the fore-end; otherwise in very good condition with excellent lock function and strong springs. A pair by the renowned gunsmithing dynasty Leclerc of Paris (listed in Stöckel, Vol. 1, pp. 223–24; active 1738).
