Pair of St. Etienne Dueling Pistols, 1840
Octagonal, deeply etched Damascus barrel with dovetail front sight, blued breechplug, engraved breechplug blade with a central band extending the entire length of the stock. The rear lock is engraved with floral motifs, signed in the center “Dubreul fréres Prenal a St. Etienne.” Finely engraved fittings, trigger guard with finger rest. Finely adjustable French set trigger. Finely grained burr walnut stocks with checkering, pommel carved with very fine palmettes. Fore-end tip with shell decoration. Silver slipcase plates. Length 39 cm, barrel length 23 cm. Barrels with hairline marks, somewhat dull but in good condition. Excellent lock interior finish with fly, strong springs, and clean detent.
