Switch-grip saber, Austria, M 1827/37
Slightly curved single-edged blade with broad fluting, root stamped with a double-headed eagle and “Ohligs,” as well as CC and E. Grooved wooden handle with fine, black ray skin and fine brass wire wrapping. The hilt is stamped Strierny in Vienna near the leather. Two movable spring guards, inside with a snap fastener. Length 100 cm, blade length 86.4 cm. The left spring guard has a spring chamber, the right one has a double clasp and a spring chamber underneath. By pressing both grip guards together, the release button can be pushed back. Before use, the push button is pressed and the grip guards spring open. Ray skin wrapping with two minimal damages, otherwise in very good condition and function. The Model 1827 has only one spring guard and was issued to staff officers of the Hussars and Uhlans.
